If you hike the trail in late April or early May look for the delicate ladyslippers and a profusion of shooting stars. Holmes Peak (329 m) offers a fine vista of the Gowlland Range and Finlayson Arm. Several bridle paths link to the Ridge Trail. Watch for markers to stay on the main trail and ignore any side paths. After a long, arduous climb you will reach upland forest where arbutus, hairy manzanita, and isolated stands of hardy shore pines cling to the exposed rocky outcrops. Follow the markers to the Jocelyn Hill summit.
This municipal park features large Douglas-fir, arbutus and Garry oak. Among the rock outcrops look for Indian plum and Nootka Rose and other flowering shrubs. Wildflowers include trillium, camas, satin flowers and fawn lilies.
