The SDO is an executive magistrate in charge of the subdivision who exercises authority not only under revenue laws but also under the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). In Bihar, West Bengal and Orissa, the SDO functions as a ‘mini-Collector’ in his/her jurisdiction.
