Such a conceptualization creates relationships of “power-over” between the knower and the known subject. A particular form of knowing, knowledge generation, and knowledge is transformed into the universal epistemology 14 C O N S T R U C T I N G T W E N T Y- F I R S T C E N T U R Y S O C I A L I S M (Agathangelou and Ling, 2004). The enlightenment knowing subject— the prophet of “truth”—is an alienated subject enacting power-over others. Such a politics of knowledge reproduces a representational praxis of epistemology (and politics) in which there is a division of labor between doers and thinkers, and intellectual and practical labor.
