Welcoming a challenge Some Secure Christians welcome a challenge. They give two reasons: some stress they want to establish independence from the authority of church or parents and to explore new options – a common move for “young adults” as they seek autonomy, the literature suggests. I have been attending church since I was born. Because of that, religion is in my house, instilled in my personality, and a routine. As you get to a certain point in your life you have to do something called making your faith your own.

He wishes he could create a meeting ground – out-of-class space for himself and his students to meet – in which they could talk about how to bring these two worlds together, but he feels that students should initiate such a meeting. This volume will continue to examine the spaces and structures that faculty create for students to figure out how to bring together the world of the classroom and the worlds of their religious and spiritual lives.
