Even faculty members whose attitudes toward the assessment of learning are warmer and more positive face the challenge of learning how to do such assessments well; few institutions have provided the professional development experiences and resources needed to help professors be successful in this endeavor.
The failure to accommodate such necessary and appropriate pluralism in assessing learning across a variety of disciplines has undermined the acceptance, adoption, and implementation of learning assessments in many institutions.
