Final day before ‘the only race, there is no other race’ day

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

Pre-race nerves were showing yesterday.  I was quite on edge, with a short fuse.  After realizing this, I spent some time performing mental relaxation and race rehearsal lead by friend Clint Lien.

This morning, I went for a final swim at Tempe Town Lake, and met up with Paulo.  It was good that I was able to hook up with an old racing buddy of mine and fellow chiropractor Mike Donia – we used to have some good battles back in the day.

My head is in a good state of mind, though I’d be lying if I said I was completely relaxed.  I really want to perfom tomorrow and will be putting everything into it.

If you want to watch the race online, go to: and tune into the action, pro-start is at 6:50am mountain standard time.

My excitement and confidence for IM is growing by the day; my body has recovered, and going way faster than I’ve seen it leading up to any race before.  I’ve never experienced easy speed like this before.  Knock on wood, this is going to be a great one.  I’ve done tonnes of hard work and preparation before this race, and a team of support behind the scenes.  I can’t wait let ‘er rip on Sunday.

Meeting up with coach, and the posse tonight for dinner, while Clint is arriving today (and staying at the same homestay as myself and Chris McDonald).

*gulp*…you want me to swim what?

Paulo is taking on the younger generation,…developing them early in becoming world class Ironman athletes.  Here’s one of his own:

ps.  in case there’s any question – I’m kidding. 🙂
