Pursuit Race Results

It was a good day overall, minus the fact it was negative 3 degreesC, windy, and the bike path we ran on was close to shear ice — similar but not quite the same as running a track race around a hockey rink!  This added twist made things interesting – Kyle described it as more of a core exercise than running; this being true.   There was some notable accomplishments,…some being Elliot Rushton was able to fit into his old Fastskin suit, Kyle Marcotte and Chris Kennedy set personal bests in the swim, Jon Bird was consistent and didn’t need a warm-up for the swim (not to mention the bugger beat me!).  Interestingly, Elliot won the National Swimming Championships in the 1500m at the Talisman Centre (same pool as today’s swim) back in 2005,…back then he did so in 15:34,…today I thought he showed impressively good form.

    Friday, March 27th, 2009

    Tomorrow, Sat March 28th is the King of Calgary pursuit race.  Due to weather concerns, the bike leg of this race is cancelled.

    1500m swim at the Talisman Centre (3 heats starting between 7-9am,…first 2 heats haven’t yet been finalized, 3rd heat starting at 8:35am is Elliot Rushton, Christopher Brown, Kyle Marcotte, Scott Curry)

    10km (2 laps of 5km) starting adjacent to the Extreme Bean (Parkdale Blvd, 32nd St NW) on the run/bike path at 10:30am for leader from swim time trial;  time behind leader for run start is dependent on finishing time from swim.

    It’s shaping up to be a beautiful day,…hopefully this carries through to tomorrow.

    Just some food for thought; the ultimate worst TV program that you can watch without sound while running on a treadmill is the Ellen DeGeneres show,…there’s loads of very bad dancing on the show, even the people in the audience dance around  like lunatics.  I guarentee there’s nothing more annoying than watching that show while working out.  I was surprised that no one changed the channel.

    I did a 1500m long course effort today (500 easy, 500 alternate strong/cruise by 50m, 500 strong) in 20min10sec.  Felt pretty darn good.
