rule #1, BELIEVE

February 13th, 2008

I woke up this morning, and my first thought was, “this is going to be a phenominal day”,…”I’m going to swim well, and bring my technique and speed closer to the best I can be on race day in Coeur D’Alene”.  I’m emphasizing positive words and thoughts lately.  My confidence has taken an upswing in relation to this.

The greatest thing lately is how head coach Mike believes in me.  He’s really been great in encouraging me, as well as challenging me in workouts.  Today, while everyone else was doing a 12x100kick set on 2:00,…he told me that I was doing something different 3x[3x150swim on 2:00, 100swim on 1:40],…then during the very last set of descending 200s, he told me he wanted me to swim a 2:10 negative split 200m.  I was thinking in my head,…”very cool, Mike believes I can do it”,…”I had 2 options,…to succeed or fail — I mentally prepared myself to succeed”.  I put a 2:10 in my head, and gave my body the belief that I will swim it.  I came up shy, but I didn’t stop believing.
