4 weeks out

May 26th, 2008

It’s 4 weeks out from Ironman Coeur D’Alene, 1 week from Boise 70.3.  Training has been going well for the most part.  I’ve seen my swimming really improve this year,…there’s no doubt that training works — ie. you get better at what you do!  I had a BIG run block in April, this was great for my confidence as I know my legs have the run strength to maintain form over the course of a marathon.

Over the last 3-4 weeks I’ve added more cycling to the equation.  I had a big training block in Chilliwack, with loads of cycling,…I capped off that week with racing the Cultus Lake Triathlon.  It was a great race to do (race organizer Joe Dixon really knows what he’s doing, and puts on great races) as it gave me a bench mark idea of where my fitness lay.  My swim and run strength was good,…and reiterated my belief that I need to work on my cycling.

As of late, I’ve started using my altitude tent (from AltitudeTech),…which was just another added stress.  My energy levels dropped dramatically last week, requiring me to sleep way more, and train less.  Encouragingly, even though my capacity to train is less, my energy seems to be coming back and I’m maintaining decent numbers in training.   This is just the ebb and flow of training, and actually is a GOOD thing.  The other factor that I’ve included in my training this year has been the addition of seeing a naturopath, Dr. Jason Ahlan of the Paradigm Health Group.  I’ve had zero colds, flus, health concerns – he has helped me in so many ways this year.  I’m thankful to have found him.

I’m continuing well with training,…the Boise race will be used as a race where I’ll dial in my Ironman pacing, and get acquainted with the racing arena again.

Best,

Scott
