Home stretch — IRONMAN FLORIDA training

October 15th, 2006

I have to say that it feels like I’ve been riding an emotional rollercoaster ride for the last two weeks. Between banging up my knee in a bike accident (keeping me off running for 10days), and most recently developing a cold, I haven’t been the perfect model for Ironman training. Needless to say, there’s no question that I’m all fired up for this race in Florida (on Nov 4th),…I’m sure these minor ‘bumps in the road’ won’t be factors on race day, and that’s all that matters to me.

Today was a big ol’ long ride (7hrs) -friend and stronger-cyclist-than-me Jarret Hann was just the man to come along and spend the day with,…time in the saddle was the key component of the day – we didn’t see any other riders out where I was (Powderface Mountain), surprising for a weekend, yet not-so surprising for a day that yielded 5-10° temperature with scattered showers. We never rode with a good distance between us always — there’s no draft in Ironman, I don’t want a draft while training for one. JH is an absolute machine, I’ve never ridden with anyone so strong on the bike before – mark my words, this man has an easy 4:20 Ironman bike split time in his abilities. Ran 30min following the ride. Then did some damage at an all-you-can eat Sushi restaurant. Sounds dodgy? This place wasn’t,…it was an AMAZING meal. Man that sashimi is good!

I’ve had a few BIG days in a row now — tomorrow is not an EASY day, but will be manageable with some good RnR tonight.

g’night,
SC
